A mayor in Ukraine's Odessa region has been detained. According to the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU), he was caught receiving a $35,000 bribe.
The mayor demanded the money in exchange for facilitating permits for the construction of a wind power plant in the port city. SBU officers documented his criminal activity and arrested him while receiving the bribe.
The official has been charged with accepting an illegal benefit while holding a particularly responsible position. He faces up to 12 years in prison with confiscation of property.
Reports identify the detained mayor as Vyacheslav Chernyavsky, mayor of the city of Kiliya.
