The UN has enough funds only until the end of August.

To continue operations in September, member states must pay their regular budget contributions.

UN Assistant Secretary-General Chandru Ramanathan said that even if some contributions come in, the organization could end the year with zero cash.

The US, the largest donor, has refused to pay its dues and reduced voluntary funding. In February, the US owed about $2.19 billion, representing 95% of total arrears.
