The UN plans to reduce and eliminate some leadership positions within the next two years as part of a large-scale reform of the organization.
Oxu.Az reports citing Reuters that UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres made the announcement.
According to him, the reforms are necessary amid a financial crisis caused by member states' arrears in contributions, including the US.
The UN chief said that under the "UN80" program, it has already been possible to reduce the budget for 2026 and relocate over 2,000 jobs from expensive cities like Geneva and New York to cheaper regions.
He added that the 2027 budget will include cuts in management layers and a reduction in the number of senior positions.
