The US and Iran have reached a preliminary agreement to de-escalate tensions in the Middle East, according to a senior US official cited by The New York Times.

The deal includes reopening the Strait of Hormuz and Iran's commitment to eliminate enriched uranium stockpiles. However, the implementation mechanism is still under discussion. President Donald Trump insists on US control over nuclear materials.

The Washington Post reports a 60-day ceasefire extension and restoration of shipping in the strait within 30 days. No documents have been signed yet, and Iran has not given final approval.

The agreement also calls for an immediate halt to military operations on all fronts. US officials say a framework deal is 95% complete. Iran's Tasnim news agency, however, denies a final deal has been reached.

Axios adds that during the 60-day ceasefire, the strait will reopen, allowing Iran to sell oil freely. In return, Washington will lift the blockade of Iranian ports and provide sanctions relief.
