Washington has suspended the activities of the US-Canada Permanent Joint Board on Defense.
Oxu.Az reports that US Deputy Secretary of Defense Elbridge Colby announced this on social media platform X.
According to him, the decision was made because Ottawa has not made sufficient progress in meeting its defense commitments.
"Unfortunately, Canada has not demonstrated progress in fulfilling its defense obligations. The Pentagon is suspending the Permanent Joint Board on Defense," Colby said.
He added that common continental defense is only possible when countries acknowledge their shared geography.
The board between the US and Canada was established in 1940. Its experts conducted strategic research in defense and provided recommendations to military institutions.
