The US trading company "Vanguard Energy" plans to supply Cuba with 250,000 barrels of diesel fuel and gasoline.
According to Oxu.Az, the company's head Matthew Klann stated this in an interview with Bloomberg. This could be the largest US fuel supply to the island since 1960. The shipment, consisting of 100,000 barrels of gasoline and 150,000 barrels of diesel, is intended solely for the private sector. It is estimated that this volume will cover approximately 11 days of standard demand.
The agency notes that Vanguard Energy has previously sent small volumes of gasoline and diesel to Cuba. The delivery of a new, larger batch is currently under negotiation.
The company has already chartered a ship sailing under the US flag, reached an agreement with a Texas refinery, and rented special tanks for fuel storage and distribution in Cuba.
It is worth noting that the situation in Cuba sharply deteriorated after the US administration announced measures aimed at a complete blockade of fuel supplies to the island at the end of January. Since February, Washington has imposed several sanction packages against the Caribbean republic, leading to a crisis. Power outages last for hours, and in some regions exceed a day.
