The US House of Representatives has passed a bill tightening sanctions against Russia and providing additional support to Ukraine.
According to Oxu.Az citing TASS, 226 lawmakers voted in favor, while 195 opposed.
The adopted document stipulates regular assessment of whether Russia continues the armed conflict with Ukraine, violates peace treaty terms, or fails to conduct peace negotiations properly. As punitive measures, additional sanctions will be imposed on Russian officials, financial institutions, oil and gas sector, coal and mining industries, while customs duties on Russian goods and services will be increased by at least 500%.
Additionally, the bill allocates $300 million annually in military aid to Ukraine for fiscal years 2026 and 2027. The bill's author is Representative Gregory Meeks, the lead Democrat on the House Foreign Affairs Committee.
