The United States will no longer cover the defense costs of wealthy nations.

Oxu.Az reports that US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth made this statement at the Shangri-La Dialogue international security forum in Singapore.

"The era of the US subsidizing the defense of wealthy nations is over. We need partners, not protectorates. We need alliances based on shared responsibility, not dependence," the Pentagon chief emphasized.

According to him, this approach creates a solid foundation for alliances, ensuring they are ready for the challenges of this century, not the last.
