US removes enriched uranium from Venezuela with IAEA support, shipping it to South Carolina for disposal.

The United States has completed the removal of enriched uranium from Venezuela. The materials will be disposed of at the Savannah River Site in South Carolina.

The US State Department announced that the operation was carried out in partnership with Venezuela and the UK, with technical support from the IAEA.

The uranium, provided to Venezuela in the 1960s for nuclear energy development, has now been safely extracted.
