The US Air Force requests $2.2 billion for a new E-4C airborne command post, known as the "Doomsday plane."
The new model will replace the E-4B. It will be resistant to nuclear explosions and electromagnetic interference.
This ensures communication and coordination even if ground infrastructure is destroyed.
The contract was signed with Sierra Nevada Corporation.
