The USS Gerald R. Ford aircraft carrier has suffered more severe damage than previously reported during operations against Iran. Repairs may take up to a year.
According to CNN, citing sailors, the wear from operations and a March fire necessitate extended maintenance.
On March 12, a fire started in the laundry room and took over a day to extinguish. All systems were disabled, requiring repair at a specialized base.
The Gerald R. Ford returned to base on May 16 after 11 months of service and anti-Iran operations.
