WhatsApp is testing a new message deletion mode. The timer will start only after the recipient reads the message.
According to MacRumors, the feature was found in the latest iOS beta via TestFlight.
Currently, the timer counts down from the moment of sending. In the new mode, deletion time activates after reading. Options: 5 minutes, 1 hour, and 12 hours. Telegram has a similar feature.
The setting is in the "Default message timer" section, but the name may change upon official release.
The tool is available to some beta users on iOS and Android. Some stable version users already have access.
Deleted messages can be set as default for all new chats and fully support end-to-end encryption.
