Chinese President Xi Jinping criticized Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaiichi during a two-day summit with U.S. President Donald Trump.
Oxu.Az reports, citing diplomatic sources, that Kyodo News released the information.
According to reports, Xi Jinping labeled Takaiichi's policy of strengthening Japan's defense capabilities as "neo-militarist."
Sources said Trump responded by praising Takaiichi and, after the summit on May 15, called him from a U.S. aircraft to reaffirm the U.S.-Japan alliance.
After the phone call, Takaiichi told journalists that Trump informed him of details of his meeting with Xi, but did not disclose the content of the conversation.
