Chinese President Xi Jinping warned US President Donald Trump during talks that a wrong approach to the Taiwan issue could lead to a direct confrontation between Beijing and Washington.

Oxu.Az reports citing China Central Television that Xi made these remarks during his meeting with Trump.

"The Taiwan issue is the most important in China-US relations. If resolved correctly, the two countries can maintain overall stability. Otherwise, they will clash or even enter into conflict, putting the entire bilateral relationship in a very dangerous situation," he noted.

He emphasized that maintaining stability in the Taiwan Strait is the most crucial factor in relations between China and the US.
