Russian dermatologist Larisa Lyubina warns against applying yogurt or sour cream to sunburns, calling it a dangerous folk remedy.
According to her, these products create a fatty layer on the skin, trapping heat and worsening the burn. The lactic acid they contain can also lead to infection.
She advises not to pop any blisters that form, as they are the skin's sterile protective barrier. Breaking them opens the door to infection.
Instead, after sun exposure, take a cool shower, use gentle cleansers, and apply moisturizers with aloe vera, panthenol, or hyaluronic acid.
