Eid al-Adha (Qurban Bayramı) is being celebrated in Azerbaijan. This year, the holiday falls on May 27 and 28.
Eid al-Adha is one of the holiest festivals in Islam. It begins on the 10th day of Dhu al-Hijjah in the Islamic lunar calendar and lasts three days.
The sacrificial animal must be healthy and fit for slaughter. Sheep, goats, cows, and camels can be chosen. It is essential to face the animal towards Mecca and slaughter it in the name of Allah.
The meat is divided into three parts: one for the owner, one for the poor, and one for relatives and friends.
The festival commemorates Prophet Ibrahim's willingness to sacrifice his son Isma'il. Allah tested his faith and provided a ram instead.
