The EU has confirmed that Hungary agreed to unblock €6.6 billion in the European Peace Facility, intending to compensate European countries that have supplied military aid to Ukraine.
Oxu.Az reports that EU diplomatic chief Kaja Kallas announced this at an informal meeting of EU defense ministers in Cyprus. She stated that with Hungary's new government, the fund is being unblocked.
Kallas presented two projects: one to compensate countries that supplied the most weapons, and another to split the funds between compensation and new deliveries. When asked if Ukraine could claim part of the money, Kallas said that while all interests would be considered, "no one will get 100%."
She also noted that Ukraine will receive the first tranche of €90 billion in early June, but discussions on the €6.6 billion are ongoing.
