Israel's government has unanimously recognized the events of 1915 during the Ottoman Empire, particularly the mass killings of Armenians, as a genocide.
According to Oxu.Az citing Euronews, the initiative was proposed by Israel's Foreign Minister Gideon Saar and approved by members of the Cabinet on Sunday.
Saar thanked Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on social media platform X for his support on the matter. The minister noted that Israel fulfilled its moral duty by accepting "historical truth" and rejecting attempts to deny it.
It should be noted that "Armenian genocide" refers to the events of 1915 in the Ottoman Empire.
Official Ankara categorically rejects calls to recognize the 1915 events as genocide.
However, Israel's decision will only come into legal force after ratification by the Knesset.
Turkey strongly condemned Israel for recognizing the events of World War I as genocide. Ankara's statement emphasized that the move is political and aims to divert attention from Israel's own actions.
