SpaceX's Falcon 9 rocket successfully delivered the high-capacity Sirius SXM-11 digital radio satellite into orbit on Monday.
The launch took place from Launch Complex 40 at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida. Approximately 35 minutes later, the satellite reached its designated orbit.
The 7-ton SXM-11 satellite, owned by Sirius XM Holdings Inc. based in New York, will provide S-band satellite radio services across North America. Its expected service life is 15 years.
This satellite will expand the Sirius XM network, which began development in 2008. A total of eight such satellites will now be in orbit. The Falcon 9's reusable first stage successfully landed on the drone ship "A Shortfall of Gravitas" in the Atlantic Ocean.
