One of the most high-profile criminal cases of the 21st century has concluded in New York State. Rex H., a 62-year-old maniac accused of murdering eight women, has been sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
According to Oxu.Az, the information was published by the "Spiegel" magazine. The verdict was announced by Judge Timothy Mazzei at the courthouse in Riverhead, Long Island.
The father of two and successful architect led a horrific double life for decades. When his wife was out of town, he would kidnap, torture, and strangle women. He disposed of their bodies along the shores of Long Island.
The crimes, known as the "Gilgo Beach murders," shocked the entire United States in 2010 when the remains of 11 people—nine women, one man, and one child—were discovered on the south shore of Long Island. These bloody events later inspired the 2020 film "Lost Girls."
Investigators were unable to track down the maniac for over a decade. The turning point came in July 2023 when the architect was arrested near his Manhattan office. Key clues helped identify the suspect: witnesses saw the killer's car after one of the victims disappeared, and modern DNA analysis matched hair strands found on the bodies to the defendant's genetic profile.
The perpetrator, who initially claimed innocence, eventually surrendered in the face of irrefutable evidence. In April 2026, he fully confessed to seven murders committed between 1993 and 2010, and also took responsibility for an eighth victim previously unlinked to the case.
