The US may delay the delivery of Tomahawk cruise missiles to Japan due to weapon shortages caused by the war with Iran.
According to the Financial Times, citing sources, Japan planned to purchase 400 Tomahawk missiles with a range of 1,600 km during the 2025-2027 fiscal years. However, the delivery schedule could be delayed by about two years.
Bloomberg previously reported that the US would not be able to deliver 400 missiles to Japan by March 2028, citing tensions in the Middle East and depleted reserves.
According to CSIS, the US used over 1,000 Tomahawk missiles in the first five weeks of the conflict with Iran. Before the war, the US arsenal had approximately 3,100 such missiles.
