Colonel Oktay Babayev, who was recently dismissed from his post as deputy head of the Main Medical Department of the Ministry of Defense, has been brought to criminal responsibility.
He is accused of fraud. The victim in the case is Major Ruhin Tagiyev, former head of the Central Medical Archive of the Main Clinical Hospital of the Armed Forces, currently imprisoned on corruption charges.
According to the indictment, Babayev received 30,000 manat from Tagiyev, promising to help him avoid being sent to a disciplinary unit. However, Tagiyev was later arrested.
The Republican Military Prosecutor's Office conducted an investigation and charged Babayev under Article 178.2.3 of the Criminal Code (fraud committed using official position). The penalty includes a fine or up to five years in prison.
Since Babayev agreed to repay part of the 30,000 manat, he was not arrested and an alternative preventive measure was chosen. The case has been sent to the Baku Military Court.
