The preparatory hearing for the criminal case of former lawyer Namizad Safarov, accused of fraud, has been held.
The process under Judge Mahira Karimova at the Baku Heavy Crimes Court clarified the defendant's personal details.
Defense attorneys filed motions to terminate the case, replace detention with house arrest, and allow the defendant to sit next to them.
The court ruled to schedule the trial for July 2, rejecting the motions for case dismissal and change of preventive measure.
According to the indictment, the ex-lawyer abused a citizen's trust, embezzling 53,000 manats. He convinced the citizen, who had been dismissed from work, that he could reinstate him, but failed to fulfill his promise.
Safarov is charged under Article 178.3.2 (Fraud causing large-scale damage) of the Criminal Code.
