The trial of Fariz Maharramov, accused in a cigarette smuggling case, has been held.
According to Oxu.Az, during a hearing at the Baku Court of Grave Crimes presided over by Judge Hafiz Kamranov, Maharramov was given the opportunity to testify freely. However, he refused, confirming his previous testimony from the preliminary investigation and partially admitting guilt.
Maharramov also avoided answering questions from the state prosecutor. The process was adjourned to June 19 for the summoning of witnesses.
Note that he is presented as a member of an organized criminal group involved in smuggling tobacco products without excise stamps. His criminal case has been separated into a separate proceeding.
The criminal case against Fariz Maharramov was initiated by the Main Anti-Corruption Directorate under the Prosecutor General. He has been charged under Articles 206.4, 213-1.2.1, and 213-1.2.3 of the Criminal Code, and a preventive measure of detention has been imposed.
