Former official and machinist who embezzled 70 tons of fuel released

Former Azerbaijan Railways employees convicted of embezzling 70 tons of fuel were conditionally released after paying damages.

Former employees of Azerbaijan Railways (ADY), arrested five months ago for embezzling tons of fuel intended for locomotive operation, have been released.

According to Oxu.Az citing Qafqazinfo, the Shirvan Court of Appeal made the decision.

The defendants, Eldeniz Sadigov and Famil Soltanov, were granted leniency after fully compensating the initial damages of 107,000 manat determined by the first instance court. They were released from the courtroom under Article 70 (conditional sentence) of the Criminal Code.

The prosecutor's protest and ADY's appeals against the sentence were also fully satisfied. The defendants are obligated to cover additional civil claims.

It should be noted that 58-year-old Eldeniz Sadigov served as head of the Imishli supply station of ADY's Fuel and Energy Resources Management Department, while 37-year-old Famil Soltanov worked as a diesel locomotive driver on the main line in the Imishli locomotive section of the Infrastructure Department's train management service.

The defendants admitted in court to embezzling 70 tons of diesel and expressed remorse. Initially, Sadigov was sentenced to 6 years and Soltanov to 5 years and 6 months in prison.
