Azar Bagirov has been sentenced to 16 years and 6 months in prison for espionage on behalf of foreign intelligence services.
The verdict was delivered at the Baku Court of Grave Crimes. He will serve his sentence in a high-security prison.
Bagirov, acting on the orders of foreign agents, photographed and filmed military and strategic sites, collecting geospatial data.
This is not his first conviction. He previously served time for attempted murder.
