A 1990-born man named Akbar was charged with robbery against Khalid in a café in Baku's Nasimi district. The incident occurred on January 14 of the previous year.
According to the indictment, Akbar, a resident of Tovuz district, was at a café around 3 AM when Khalid, sitting at a nearby table, drunkenly stared at the woman with Akbar, made remarks, and swore. Akbar pulled him aside, a quarrel ensued, and Akbar punched and kicked Khalid, taking 500 manats from him before fleeing.
The victim claimed Akbar was not alone but attacked with a group, leading to charges under Article 181.2.1 (robbery by prior conspiracy).
Akbar pleaded not guilty, stating: “There was a woman with me. Khalid looked at her and insulted her. I ignored it and changed seats. Then he started cursing. I asked why, and he said 'I'm cursing everyone.' We went outside to talk, but a fight broke out. I suggested checking the CCTV, but it wasn't done.” He denied stealing the money.
Khalid said: “I went with my friend Salim to relax. A misunderstanding over song orders led to the conflict. Akbar invited me outside, but inside someone hit me from behind. I fell, and 6-7 people beat me, including Akbar. Afterwards, he introduced himself as Anar. I had 526 manats in my pocket, which later disappeared. I was drunk and don't recall details.”
The Baku Heavy Crimes Court found the robbery charge unproven. The charge was reclassified to Article 128 (intentional light bodily harm). Akbar was found guilty under this article but was released under an amnesty act.
