In the latest episode of Baku TV's "Amin" program, writer and journalist Mirmehdi Aghayev shared his impressions from the Hajj pilgrimage and his book "Hajj Diary".
He spoke about the inner feelings that drive people to perform this arduous worship in record 56-degree heat, the symbolic meanings of rituals, and the spiritual crises of the modern world.
Emphasizing that the pilgrimage consists entirely of symbolic rites, the writer noted that we throw stones knowing the devil is not physically present: "We perform those rituals symbolically. They teach us to stay away from sin. When sin or the devil approaches you, you must throw stones at it."
Discussing the conflict between good and evil and the deformation of values, the writer touched on postmodernism and spiritual shocks. He mentioned a Jew in Auschwitz who wrote on the wall: "Oh God, I will complain about you." This shows the depth of people's shock.
