Official Washington believes that European partners in NATO are becoming logistics and financial bases for terrorist groups. This view was outlined in the US administration's Counterterrorism Strategy published yesterday.
The report states that "massive and uncontrolled migration flows provide a conduit for terrorist infiltration into European states," and therefore European countries must "urgently and significantly strengthen their counterterrorism efforts." The authors emphasize that "it is unacceptable for wealthy NATO partners to provide financing and logistics to terrorists."
The document notes that Europe is both a target for terrorists and an "incubator where terrorist threats mature." European states remain leading strategic allies of the US in the global fight against terror, but they must do more.
