The UN's Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) reports that approximately $1 trillion worth of food is lost or wasted globally each year.
About one-third of global food production is lost or wasted, enough to feed 1.26-1.3 billion people annually.
14% of food is lost during production and logistics ($400 billion), while 17% is wasted during consumption. Total economic loss is estimated at $936 billion.
The report shows meat production has doubled in recent decades, with poultry production increasing sixfold since 1961. Asia leads in production volume, while North America tops per capita output.
